The CHOICE Study is unique because it includes patient advisors in the research process, from design to dissemination. What is a patient advisor? In this case, a patient advisor is a cancer patient or survivor who has previously participated in a medical research study, has experience with the condition, and/or has previously used the treatments being investigated. Patient advisors know from experience what it is like to be a study participant, from making the first appointment to filling out the final survey. As survivors of different types of cancers, patient advisors bring a rich set of viewpoints to the design and progress of the CHOICE Study. Their input aids the understanding of how patients’ beliefs and preferences affect treatment experience. Patient advisor participation in the CHOICE study will enable future cancer patients with insomnia to choose the best treatment options.
